How to clean your fruit and vegetables everyday

Many people overlook this simple yet very effective way to wash there fruits and veggies that we constantly buy and eat every day.

If the fruit and vegetables your buying is not organically grown then it can be exposed to a wide range of chemicals and pesticides during the stages of growth, harvesting and packing the produce before they arrive at the supermarket.

Did you know that over 300 pesticides are used in conventional farming? (Samsell and Seneff 2013)

Pesticides are used on crops as a way of removing or regulating all kinds of pests such as herbicides, insecticides and fungicides.

However certain pesticides can remain for longer periods of time and can possible cause disease and has been linked to certain illnesses such as asthma, allergies, hormone disruption, diabetes, fertility issues and intolerance to gluten.

Not to worry, here are three quick and easy ways that you can start from today that will help to remove the excess chemicals that may be still sticking on to your fruit and vegetables.

  • The quickest way is by soaking the fruit in water with a tablespoon of salt for a few minutes.

  • You can use white distilled vinegar in a water solution and let is sit for 5 minutes.

  • For a smaller proportion you can use 1 tablespoon of baking soda with two cups of water and allow it to sit for 5 minutes before rinsing off with water.

I would highly recommend everyone to include this easy and less cost effective step into their lifestyle, especially those that already have existing health conditions such as thyroid disorders, acne, pcos and those that have digestive issues like acid reflux or bloating.

I would suggest to make a comparison of trying this out for a week and see how you feel and notice the difference in the appearance and the taste of the vegetables and noting down any changes you may feel within yourself.
